Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes! We (Sarah and Anna) are sisters. But our last name is not ‘Winter’ - we think of the name a little more metaphorically than that. We consider the whole farm to be the sister of the Winter season, and hopefully our CSA program can be your proverbial sister through the winter and spring.

  • This farm is a year-round operation. Growing food in the summer and fall is absolutely critically to feeding so many people over the winter and spring. Storage crops like potatoes, onions, winter squash, beans, corn, and others are too tender to grow during the winter cold, but when grown in the summer and harvested properly in the fall, can be stored and eaten for months. This is our job all year long.

  • High tunnels, row cover, and muddy boots! Please see our About page for more detail on our growing practices!

  • If you are going to be away for part of the harvest season you're welcome to have friends or family pick up your share in your stead. Off weeks / vacations are a great opportunity to give the gift of the CSA experience to someone you love. Just have them sign your name at pickup and check in with a farmer so they know our systems. We will not be offering make-up weeks this season, and generally we don’t allow taking extra veggies to make up for missed weeks, otherwise harvest planning becomes too complicated.

In anticipation of holiday travels, we will not be holding pickup on December 23rd or 26th, and will have pickup on Wednesday Jan 3 instead of Jan 2.

  • No, the CSA is a full-season commitment. We are open as a farmstand, so you are always welcome to shop weekly or periodically that way, though not all items will be available to farmstand customers. The CSA will always be the best value.

  • We do not offer refunds except in rare circumstances. The farm relies on CSA income for the up-front costs of production. Similarly, we ask that you make a full-season commitment to the CSA, even if you sign up to pay in installments.

  • Yes. We ask you to handle the details on your end and sign up under one name. The alternate household can sign in on their weeks under the sign-up name. We also ask that all households picking up share attend an orientation.

  • Our Community Support Fund offers those with extra resources the ability to pay more to offset costs for those who need assistance affording the share. Please select a discount tier from our Community Support Fund in the sign-up form. We also offer monthly payment schedules to spread out the cost, and accept EBT/SNAP payment.

  • The short answer is that we sat down with our operating expenses spreadsheet and our crop plan and figured out how many shares we could grow on the space we have, and how much money we’d need to meet our overhead costs and pay ourselves the minimum we need in order to farm another season. For us, the increase is a reflection of what we’ve learned over the past three seasons about the real costs of our materials, equipment and most importantly, skilled labor at a living wage.

  • The 2024-2025 CSA Season will run from November 23 (the Saturday before Thanksgiving) to May 13. Each harvest week starts on a Saturday, and members can choose to pick up either on Saturday or the following Tuesday each week. You’ll receive a harvest list and update from the farm every Friday.

There will be NO pickups December 28th or 31st, as well as March 1st and 4th
